Ziel der Militärwissenschaften (auch: Wehrwissenschaft oder Kriegswissenschaft) ist es, militärisches Wissen und Praktiken, die für die Sicherheit einer Nation oder eines Staatenbundes relevant sind zu erforschen und weiterzuentwickeln. Dies geschieht auf Grundlage vor Natur-, Gesellschafts- und Ingenieurswissenschaften.
Aus diesem Grund sind die Teilbereiche der Wehrwissenschaft relativ weit gefasst. Gesellschaftswissenschaftliche Themen sind z.B. Sicherheitspolitik, Konfliktforschung oder Militärsoziologie. Weitere Teilbereiche sind beispielsweise Wehrmedizin, militärische Logistik, Wehrtechnik und Rüstung sowie Militärische Strategie, Operationsführung und Taktik.
