Ziel der Militärwissenschaften (auch: Wehrwissenschaft oder Kriegswissenschaft) ist es, militärisches Wissen und Praktiken, die für die Sicherheit einer Nation oder eines Staatenbundes relevant sind zu erforschen und weiterzuentwickeln. Dies geschieht auf Grundlage vor Natur-, Gesellschafts- und Ingenieurswissenschaften.
Aus diesem Grund sind die Teilbereiche der Wehrwissenschaft relativ weit gefasst. Gesellschaftswissenschaftliche Themen sind z.B. Sicherheitspolitik, Konfliktforschung oder Militärsoziologie.
