The general aim of the study course is to prepare future graduates for fields of activity in Germany as well as abroad, whereby the idea is to influence social change under globalisation, to process problem fields of human cohabitation in the context of increasing intercultural relationships and to enable people to play a role in organising their lives penetrated by global influences. This professionalism to be conveyed in the study programme will be described in the following with the term intercultural decision-making and responsibility. The M.A. study course is thereby given a unique profile in Germany so far that corresponds to growing social requirements.Differentiated study aims result from the aim of the study course thus described. The students should acquire scientifically sound reflective and instrumental decision-making skills in the framework of the study programme. Decision-making and responsibilities in intercultural social fields require a variety of professional competences, methodological competences, normative competences as well as social and subject competences. On the level of professional competences the students should learn to capture global economic, political, cultural and social structures and developments in world society from the viewpoint of the involved specialist disciplines as well as gaining an insight into social contexts in the respective national context. These specialist competences should put the students in a position to provide a foundation for their future professional work in intercultural fields through scientifically justified concepts corresponding to the respective research and development status of the cultural and social sciences. On the level of methodological competences the students will be given the opportunity to become acquainted with a) social science research methods b) methods of intercultural negotiations as well as c) methods of socio-political negotiations which in total enable the students to perform professional social work in globalised societies.Beyond acquiring these specific professional competences the students should be aware of the value of their actions and in this context among others learn to reflect the significance of human rights principles for the debate with their own professional identity which merges into a normative competence. This normative competence is in turn the basis for a subject and social competence that is necessary in the future professional fields of intercultural actions in contact with clients as well as other actors within and outside of organisations.
