Central to the study course are scientific and creative decision-making and responsibilities that specialise in the individual subjects of movement/sport, art, music, literature and theatre and include the qualified dealing with new media as a complementary competence. In contrast to relevant courses of study at art and music universities on the one hand and social and educational courses of study on the other hand the special feature of the Master study course Culture, Aesthetics and Media lies in the fact that knowledge and skills are conveyed in an interdisciplinary and application-oriented way.Creative decision-making and responsibilities in the field of new media, cultural education and social work are on the one hand dealt with in detail in the Master study course as well as being scientifically reflected on the other hand. Along with the specialised practical application competence in the field of different media the students acquire skills on scientific theory formations in this way. Added to this are skills in the fields of social sciences and culture. A special emphasis is placed on the fostering of communicative, intercultural, intergenerative and creative skills as well as the ability to apply networked thinking.
A forecast can be made about the area of work for future Master graduates in the following professional fields.
a) Public (cultural) administration, administration and management of social-educational and (socio) cultural institutions Future Master graduates can and will take over in part the current curricular and extracurricular work fields of social workers such as pre-school education, school social work, intercultural social work, social area-oriented social work/social pedagogy, youth care/youth work, adult education, social work/social pedagogy with girls and women, penal system and senior citizen education work. In addition they are especially qualified for media work.
b) Free cultural work Such cultural educational work orders closely related to social pedagogy, however, can also be found outside the field of public sector bodies, for example campaigns and projects in cultural work fields close to youth art school and cultural educational institutions, children´s theatre festivals, girls` youth work, youth art schools, media workshops, campaigns in socio-cultural centres/youth culture houses, museum educational projects, media work, open children´s and youth work, children culture projects, art schools, children´s culture days, youth festivals for tolerance and democracy, artist agencies for youth projects, youth work, regional cultural institutions, work in cultural associations or at events to award cultural prizes, new media professions. Jobs in youth and adult education centres can also be developed if medial competences are introduced, e.g. as an applied drama teacher working with older citizens, as an initiator for youth music competitions, as a promoter in creating virtual media to develop own representations or CDs. Included in the established institutions offering cultural education services in the framework of their educational mandate are theatres, operas, orchestras, music schools, libraries, museums, exhibition organisers, monuments and memorial sites, arts and leisure centres, nature parks, socio-cultural centres, cinemas, radio and television broadcasting companies, training academies, family education centres, adult education centres, cultural centres, cultural associations, etc. The following positions, for example could be filled there: media educational specialist, art educator, music teacher, movement teacher, elementary teacher in the field of culture, aesthetics and media, literature teacher to promote a joy of reading with children and young people, educational organiser, adult education teacher, employee for political education, cultural educator, outdoor education teacher, media expert or the like.
c) Media/Journalism/PR/PR work/Marketing Graduates from the study course acquire skills to work in particular on issues from society, politics, culture and features in the media, i.e. in editorial offices of newspapers, magazines, radio, television, websites and the like. Furthermore graduates can also use their skills in companies, in administrations and in associations if the work relates to PR work or marketing, for example as a journalist/reporter, editor, author, designer, copyrighter, website designer, cameraman/woman, sound technician, lighting technician, etc.
d) Media technology/New Media According to forecasts made by the State Broadcasting Authority - in accordance with a slump in the market to be observed throughout the whole of the IT field - an increased demand is to be reckoned with again in future for media experts, especially in the field of new media.There is the possibility of working in higher public service with this degree.

1st semester: New Media 1, Media Science, Theory of Society, Creativity and Expressiveness 1, Social Science methodology
2nd semester: New Media 2, Creativity and Expressiveness 2, Either: methods of (inter) cultural decision-making and responsibility or: methods of socio-political decision-making and responsibility
3rd semester: Management/Administrative Law, Master Seminar, Thesis
Entry requirements
The following entry requirements are determined:
1. Entry requirements 1. a Bachelor degree or a comparable university diploma in a social or cultural study course (social work, social pedagogy, social welfare work, sociology, politics or social sciences, pedagogics, psychology or the like) or a study course with relevant subjects in the field of culture, aesthetics and media (e.g. art, literature, music, new media, sport) with at least 210 ECTS points and an overall grade of at least 2.3 and 2. relevant practical experience to the scope of at least 900 working hours (corresponds to 23 weeks full-time work).
2.Valid as »relevant« in accordance with paragraph 1 point 2 is the successful completion of a practical semester or practical module in a Bachelor study course of social work, social pedagogy or social welfare work or a comparable university study course in type and scope of the "Module to obtain state recognition" in the Bachelor study course "Social Work/Social Pedagogy" at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences or practical experience in a field of action of social work or in a field of action that is in connection with the contents of the study course listed in § 1 paragraph 1. In case of doubt the examination committee will decide on the recognition of practical experience.
3. Deviating from the entry requirement in paragraph 1 point 1, applicants can be admitted who can show they have attained a Bachelor degree with 180 ECTS points. In this case the applicant must have successfully passed the test in accordance with "Module to obtain state recognition" in the Bachelor study course "Social Work/Social Pedagogy" by admission to the Master examination at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. The students are credited 30 ECTS points for this.
