Der Masterstudiengang wird vom Institut für Molekulare Biowissenschaften koordiniert. Das Studium der Molekularen Biotechnologie soll methodische und konzeptionelle Fähigkeiten interdisziplinäres Forschung selbständiges wissenschaftliches Denken und verantwortliches Handeln vermitteln. Die Absolventen sollen befähigt werden auch nach Beendigung des Studiums sich selbständig in neue Entwicklungen der molekularen Biotechnologie einzuarbeiten.
The Faculty of Biosciences at the University of Frankfurt is establishing a new master programme ?Molecular Biotechnology? in cooperation with the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FB12), the Faculty of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FB14) as well as the TU Darmstadt. The program will start in fall 2010 with a new course opening once a year every fall thereafter. Classes will be held mostly in German with some classes in English. Applications from national and international students are welcome. Deadline for 2010 is the 15th July 2012.
The M.Sc. Molecular Biotechnology is research oriented. Theoretic knowledge about chemical and biological processes (including molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, analytics) is put into practice on a molecular level thus creating expertise for the production of biologically active molecules, which in turn generate scientific and economic added value. The program allows an insight into the way biological macromolecules work and facilitates the development of innovative products and processes ranging from customized enzymes to new drugs or biomolecule-based analytical methods.
Prerequisite is a Bachelor or another equivalent degree in the field of biotechnology, biosciences or similar. Further information will soon be available from the study guidelines.

Anforderungen
Bewerbungskriterien: Zur Aufnahme in den Masterstudiengang wird ein Bachelorabschluss in Biowissenschaften, Chemie, Biochemie oder einem verwandten Fach sowie ein Motivationsschreiben verlangt.
Wenn Ihnen zu Ihrem Bachelorabschluss noch Leistungen fehlen, können Sie sich dennoch bewerben, falls Sie 150 CP erfolgreich absolviert haben. Sie benötigen dann für die Bewerbung eine detaillierte Aufstellung Ihrer bisherigen Leistungen.
Maßgebend für die Auswahl der durch den Prüfungsausschuss zu vergebenden 12 Studienplätze sind zu 70% die Note des Bachelorabschlusses und zu 30% die Note des Motivationsschreibens. Die Bewertung des Motivationsschreibens stützt sich neben der äußeren Qualität auf die überzeugende Darstellung insbesondere des persönlichen und des spezifischen Interesses am Masterstudiengang ggf. unter Darstellung der bisherigen Berufs- oder Praxiserfahrungen oder studienrelevanter außeruniversitärer Leistungen, die über die Eignung für den Masterstudiengang besonderen Aufschluss geben können. Das Motivationsschreiben darf zwei Seiten mit 12pt großer Schrift und 1,5zeiligem Textabstand nicht überschreiten. Es wird mit einer Note von 1 bis 5 nach folgender Notenskala bewertet: 1= sehr gut, 2=gut, 3=befriedigend, 4=ausreichend, 5=mangelhaft.
Die Bewerbungen können werden durch das Uni-Assist-Portal ab dem 02.05.2011 angenommen.
Rules of Admission For application a B. Sc. in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related subject as well as a letter of motivation is required.
In case the required degree has not been awarded by the time of application, you can still apply if you provide a detailed certificate of the present status of your studies and the anticipated date of completion of the bachelor program. In addition you must have already achieved 150 credit points in the respective bachelor program.
For the selection of the 12 places of the master programme the grade of the bachelor is evaluated to 70% and the grade of the motivation letter to 30%. The evaluation of the motivation letter is based on the outside quality as well as the convincing representation in particular the personal and the specific interest in the master programme, if possible under representation of former practical experiences or study-relevant non-university achievements, which supports special information on the suitability for the master programme. The motivation letter may not exceed two sides with 12pt and 1,5 line distance. It is evaluated with a note from 1 to 5 after the following note scale: 1= excellent, 2=good, 3=satisfactory, 4=pass, 5=fail.
Applications will be handled by the portal of Uni-Assist starting on May 2nd 2011.
