The four-semester master’s programme goes into the knowledge acquired in the Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and Economics bachelor programmes (six semesters) in more depth. The whole programme comprises 120 ECTS credits. Knowledge of innovative technological concepts, construction and development methodology, materials and manufacturing processes and their theoretical background and numerical procedures for computations and simulations go to form the central teaching contents of the master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering. As a supplement, the course of study offers possibilities of specialisation in the following fields:
* Production engineering
* Computational engineering & mechatronic
* Motor and drive technology
* Automotive engineering and safety
* Energy technology.
Graduates are awarded the degree of “Diplom-Ingenieurin” or “Diplom-Ingenieur”, which is internationally equivalent to a “Master of Science” (“MSc”).
Working as a Mechanical Engineer
In view of the great regional, national and international demand for mechanical engineers, graduate mechanical engineers from Graz University of Technology enjoy excellent job prospects. Diverse co-operations of Graz University of Technology and its institutes with companies in the high-tech field, for instance in the automotive industry, and the resulting synergy affects regarding training facilitate career entry.
Depending on personal capabilities and interests, there are career opportunities in all technical sectors and in the most diverse fields of work—from designers to area managers in research and development. Development, construction and deployment of machinery, vehicles and plants, whether automobiles or railed vehicles, machine tools, conveyor systems, pumps, turbines, environmental or refrigeration engineering, climate-conditioning systems and industrial robots all count among the classical tasks of mechanical engineering.
