The healthcare sector can be characterized by its dynamic growth and through the increasing complexity in terms of the financial, structural and cultural circumstances of the service providers. Demographical and socio-cultural developments, the rapid advancements in the field of medicine, the increasing quality awareness in the healthcare and nursing care fields, the pressure to keep costs under control in the face of constant financial resources and last but not least the increasing demands of patients in regards to their own care clearly illustrate the main demands placed on the healthcare system today.
These demands can only be met by highly qualified personnel at all levels of healthcare provision. The Master degree program “Health Management” educates managers in the field of health care. These managers should have the capabilities to realize the necessary processes in the framework of reform efforts in the healthcare system and the differencing dimensions of quality of care and to be a positive part of these creative processes.
Qualifications and competence profileThe graduates of the CUAS Master degree program Health Management acquire expertise that is fundamental, based on sound research and evidence, application oriented and specifically designed for the field of healthcare relevant disciplines. Above and beyond this, our students attain the ability to analyze subjects methodically and to apply this skill in interdisciplinary settings. The degree program conveys additionally key skills such as the ability to act independently, social and communication skills, e.g. conflict management, cooperation, negotiations and language skills, as well as fundamental leadership and management competence such as the ability to delegate, motivate employees, set and achieve goals to name a few.
Goals of the program
* Qualifications in the healthcare field, especially in non-medical doctor areas
* Mediating and deepening of management skills and competences
* Specialization and broadening of scientific knowledge in the areas of economics and healthcare economics
* Preparation for the start of a professional career path at higher management levels.
Inhalte
The four-semester long Master program has 120 ECTS-points and is designed in modules. The courses are offered in the form of lectures, lab exercises, seminars, integrated lectures and interdisciplinary project work. Blended learning methodology is implemented frequently throughout.
Furthermore, an emphasis is placed in the areas of personal development and social skills; the ability to control the program individually and autonomously set up the study plan in the framework of independent studies is possible; the implementation of the intensified competences of academic research work is accomplished by writing a Master thesis; as well as the possibility of receiving individualized course offering depending on the qualification requirements is also possible.
Degree upon graduation “Master of Arts in Business“Upon successful completion of the degree program Health Management, our students are granted the academic degree of “Master of Arts in Business”.

... a relevant Bachelor´s degree from a University of Applied Sciences or similar or higher degree from a recognized university (Austrian or international) or a six semester education from a post-secondary higher educational institution*.
* Teacher´s College/Academy, Midwife Academy, MTD academies and other higher educational establishment

The registration deadline for the Winter Semester 2008/2009 is July 20, 2008.
Credit transfer
The recognition and transfer of coursework completed and qualifications that go above and beyond the entrance prerequisites is generally possible. The Head of School is responsible for deciding what items will be accepted for recognition.
