Lage Fachhochschule Kärnten (Campus Spittal)
The environmentally sensitive and responsible arrangement of our living space and the mastering of social and integrative questions is the central theme of future development.
The emphasis of the master program in Spittal is on practice- and project-oriented work complimented by workshops, seminars, lectures, competitions, jury feedback, excursions, and inter-disciplinary projects including ones with other universities both at home and abroad. A semester abroad at a partner university in the 2nd or 3rd semester is recommended. Through the choice of electives the students have, beside the central topics of Design and Construction, the possibility to choose their personally desired specialisations up to 50% of the necessary ECTS (dissertation included). The respective specialisations in this degree program are mainly concerned to organise specifically the development of planning processes which first and foremost comprise sustainable development (e.g., revitalisation) of architectural and town planning. In this process on the one hand it is important to initiate projects of very good quality but also on the other hand to methodically develop them further in the planning and to maintain this quality during their final execution.
Inhalte
The course spans a total of 4 semesters with mandatory attendance at all lectures. The courses always start with the Winter semester in autumn of each year. The curriculum is based on the fundamental bachelor study "Architecture" and is designed for a deepening of already acquired knowledge and a further growth of competences and skills. The curriculum has a modular structure. Each module spreads over one or two semesters and contains related subjects characterised by a common competence profile. Interdisciplinary project work is organised between modules.
In Semester 1 previously acquired knowledge is strengthened and selectively deepened.
Semester 2 is devoted to a complex team project which lasts for a period of 10 weeks. In addition the semester focuses on the extension of construction business management and planning competences.
Semester 3 provides competence extension within the field of Structural Restoration and Redevelopmentand offers a choice of modules in the areas of infrastructure and the real estate industry or in the areas of energy efficiency and sustainability.
Semesters 2 and 3 are recommended for an international study exchange.
Semester 4 finally is solely reserved for writing the master thesis.
Academic Title "Diplom Ingenieur, Dipl. Ing."
After passing the final exam graduates are awarded the title "Diplomingenieur for scientific-technical occupations" (Master of Science, MSc.)
PhD programme
The successful completion of the master degree program entitles students to undertake a PhD study program at a university.
Anforderungen
Application
Acceptance conditions to the master program "Architecture" is a completed bachelor study in Architecture at home or abroad. For the written application for admission please include your curriculum vitae with signature and photo (if available also proof of additional qualifications), a portfolio of work as well as copies of the school-leaving exam report, the Bachelor or Diploma Certificate or an equivalent qualification and the proof of nationality.

The master program "Architecture" offers yearly 20 students the chance of a continuing practically-oriented academic education. Acceptance is based on the presented certificates, the portfolio and an interview.
