The four-semester master’s programme Chemical and Process Engineering builds on the bachelor's programme and enables students to gain specialist knowledge in the individual disciplines in chemical and process engineering. In addition to theoretical education and training, great store is set on practical laboratory exercises. The exercises are carried out in small groups and thus promote the capability to communicate on a technical level with students and instructors – a capability which is extremely important to chemical and process engineers. Graduates of the program are awarded the academic title of “Diplom-Ingenieurin” or “Diplom-Ingenieur” which is equivalent to the international "Master of Science" ("MSc").
Working as a chemical and process engineer
Chemical and process engineers are all-rounders. Since almost all industrial branches need chemical and process engineering, there is a great wealth of professional possibilities. The know-how and competence of chemical and process engineers are sought after wherever industrial plants are erected and operated. The spectrum ranges from the food, tobacco and alcohol industry, paper industry, plastics industry, petrochemistry and the production of chemicals to biotechnology, among others. Chemical and process engineers can work in a wide range of functions, such as in the areas of research and development, planning and construction, operation and production, customer care and distribution or technical monitoring. In addition, chemical and process engineering includes a component that is very strongly oriented towards the environment. Thus, chemical and process engineers are often employed by companies and authorities as experts for environmental issues.
