Anglia Ruskin University was awarded university status in 1992. Today, with a student population of 31,000, we are one of the largest universities in the East of England, and a large provider of part-time education.
Our students are on courses leading to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as to a range of professional qualifications. In addition to being one of the most significant suppliers of nurses and teachers to the professions, we offer an ever expanding range of contemporary courses designed to meet the needs of the individual and the requirements of a knowledge-based economy.
Our main campuses at Cambridge and Chelmsford attract students not only from the East of England but in increasing numbers from mainland Europe and from further afield. In addition, our University has an extensive network of contacts with institutions throughout the world, delivering courses in countries as far removed as Malaysia and Trinidad.

Rivermead campusJust a short walk from Chelmsford town centre - the County town of Essex - this modern campus with its stunning buildings has a wealth of industry-leading facilities including a new Health and Social Care building with state-of-the-art medical equipment and facilities, the Mildmay sports hall with well equipped gym and a recently developed Student Centre
Set in the green and lush Rivermead area of Chelmsford, our campus is home to the largest business school in the eastern region - Ashcroft International Business School (AIBS) based in the award-winning Michael A. Ashcroft Building. It is a learning centre that combines striking visual features with the most advanced learning technologies and is well-recognised as a vital centre for business education and training by students, employers, and professional bodies.
Our Marconi Building - the result of a £15 million investment, houses our Faculties of Science & Technology, and Arts, Law & Social Sciences. Facilities include an amphitheatre, Mock Law Court and a 150-seat lecture theatre.
Student Village
Another feature is our Student Village, offering a wide range of student accommodation facilities, launderette, pharmacy, shops and a medical centre.

Our University has two main libraries in Cambridge and Chelmsford, and two smaller, specialist nursing libraries at the Fulbourn and Peterborough District Hospital sites.

Friendly, expert staff, including a team of subject specialists, are on hand to offer support. We also have IT help desks in both the Cambridge and Chelmsford libraries.
All Anglia Ruskin students have automatic membership of the University Library; all you need is your valid University ID card. You will be able to renew books and search our catalogue online. There is an introduction to our services at the start of the semester and drop-in study and information skills sessions are offered throughout the year via our 'Lunchtime in the Library' programme, while more advanced sessions can be arranged with lecturers.
You'll find our libraries are designed to offer a wide range of resources to support self-study outside of classes. Whether you need to write an essay, are working on your dissertation or revising for exams, your campus library is here to help you.
Computing and media facilities
You will have access to IT resources, whatever subject you are studying. Our University has a range of open-access PCs for students as part of the learning resources provision. Several departments have their own computing facilities for students studying modules requiring specialist software.
Our Cambridge and Chelmsford campus libraries offer media facilities that include enabling you to watch DVDs or video. In designated group hire rooms you are able to link your laptop to a video screen for showing presentations or videos.
On the library based computers you will have access to word processing and analytical applications, to help you with your assignments and projects, as well as free access to the Internet and email along with wireless connectivity for your laptop. An IT Help Desk service is available within our University Libraries (Cambridge and Chelmsford) to help with all your IT problems.
As a student at Anglia Ruskin you be able to view your timetable, modules and results online. You will also be able to update personal information such as addresses and complete your online task required for your student loan. You will also be given your own Anglia Ruskin email account, through which you will receive information from your tutors and our University (including library book reminders).
Sporting Facilities
CambridgeOur East Road campus hosts a new gym for students, staff and alumni, which is just 200 yards from the city's Parkside swimming pool and the Kelsey Kerridge sports centre. Anglia Ruskin students also have use of three football pitches and a rugby pitch.
ChelmsfordIn Chelmsford you'll be able to access the same facility that appears in the official London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide. You'll also be able to join the Mildmay Sports Centre which includes a fitness suite and sports hall with badminton courts, netball court and indoor cricket lanes, as well as playing host to National League basketball and international volleyball.

As a student at Anglia Ruskin you will find plenty of opportunities to take part in sport, as both our Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses have an exciting range of facilities and clubs. Eating on campus
At Anglia Ruskin our restaurants and cafés are modern and inviting, offering a wide range of healthy and filling main meals freshly cooked daily by our chefs as well as a wide and continuously changing range of sandwiches, baguettes, rolls, snacks, desserts and fruit to suit all budgets. Most items are also available as take away. Many of our products are specially prepared for vegetarians whilst we can also cater for Halal, Kosher and vegan customers. Vending facilities are available across all campuses.
Our refreshment spaces are not only convenient in location, but are also pleasant and inviting areas where you can enjoy spending time with friends and colleagues as well as quality food and drink.

Café@Coslett and The Helmore Restaurant offer both seated table areas, and soft-seat relaxing areas where you can enjoy socialising over lunch or a snack. Costa Coffee is very conveniently located on the first floor close to the main campus entrance from East Road, perfect for those who like to grab a coffee before lectures!

The Rivermead Restaurant and Coffee Bar are located close to the library, which is great for when you need to refuel before a study session! Tindal Café is a convenient stop-off close to classes in the Health and Social Care building (William Harvey), and the Marconi Café is great for a coffee for anyone studying in the Marconi Building (Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Technology).
Chelmsford is a centre of industry and commerce and as such has a thriving and innovative ambience, perfect for budding entrepreneurs. The birthplace of broadcasting, Chelmsford attracts a wealth of cultures which makes it ideal for anyone to immerse themselves in its cosmopolitan environment.
Chelmsford offers you quick access to London, only 35 minutes by train and has good road connections to the whole of the UK. With a population of over 157,000, it is a lively and thriving county town and is the focus for government, business, retail, leisure and culture in Essex. The local economy is strong with over 77,000 jobs in the area.
Key Attractions
Chelmsford's great architectural centrepiece is its magnificent 15th Century Cathedral but other highlights include the idyllic countryside surrounding the town and its rivers, Can; Chelmer and Wid. In addition, it is very close to the coast and to Stansted Airport so is extremely accessible.
Shopping
Shopaholics will not be disappointed in Chelmsford. The wealth of retail outlets include a mix of essential high street brands, unique independent stores and two retail parks in walking distance of the town centre. On the High Street are two modern, medium-sizes shopping malls - High Chelmer is conveniently located between the High Street, market and the library complex. Whilst The Meadows offers yet more choice in both retail and dining and is adjacent to the town's multi-screen cinema.
Sports and Leisure
Sport is top of the agenda in Chelmsford as it is home to Essex County Cricket Club which is within easy walking distance of our University. In addition, Chelmsford has a variety of private and public golf clubs and there are rugby and hockey clubs, Chelmsford City Football Club, as well as the Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre - home of the successful Chelmsford Chieftains ice hockey team. The Arts/Nightlife
Chelmsford has a vibrant, cosmopolitan nightlife of clubs, bars, cafés and restaurants; you will never be short of ideas. With two theatres, a multi-screen cinema and the Chelmsford Film Club celebrating its 25 year anniversary, as well as unique live music venues including: Barhouse, The Golden Fleece and The Bassment, there really is something for everybody.
Every August, the V Festival is held in Hylands Park, with up to 65,000 people attending each day. The 574 acre park is also home to the beautifully restored 18th century Grade 2 listed Hylands House which has been featured on television and film shoots.
