You are about to discover a unique learning community—one of the most demographically diverse educational institutions on the planet. Here at AUP, everyone is a language learner; here virtually everyone is a foreigner in an international environment in which all feel “at home.” AUP is a true 21st-century world university with an incomparable urban location in the most beautiful city in the world, and a curriculum designed to produce global leaders by focusing on the comparative and the cross-cultural, the international and the interdisciplinary.
Over the past decade, the University has made tangible progress toward its founder’s dream to create a community of learning that crosses and indeed effaces cultural boundaries. By mounting rigorous Master’s programs, articulating increasing numbers of academic partnerships, and hosting international conferences that foreground AUP faculty scholarship and that of renowned scholars, practitioners, and artists worldwide, the University is taking its place as a leading academic, intellectual and cultural center in France and in the world. In this unique learning environment—inflected by the remarkable demographic diversity of student, faculty and staff bodies—attention is brought to bear on the role of knowledge production across languages, cultures, and societies in an ever-globalizing world.
Founded as a liberal arts institution in the 1960s, today AUP is an urban, independent, international university located at the confluence of France, Europe, and the world. We provide the finest American undergraduate and graduate programs to students from all national, linguistic, and educational backgrounds in the global city that is Paris, drawing together teaching and research in our unique academic environment. Both student learning and faculty research are driven by a desire for excellence, are shaped by our singular geography and demographic diversity, and directed towards critical twenty-first-century issues.
AUP offers an innovative pedagogical model integrating classroom learning and hands-on experience that prepares students to master and to make, to reflect and to apply, to analyze and to act. Our students enter the global workplace as creative problem solvers with the skills to cross both borders and disciplines. Our faculty accomplishes innovative interdisciplinary research in the traditional humanities, social science and science fields, as well as in the domains of cultural translation; Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies; international relations and public policy; international business; and film, media, and global communications. AUP hosts annually over 200 lectures and seminars, several international conferences, multiple film series, and working papers series in both the humanities and the social sciences. The University has articulated partnershipswith other academic institutions, such as New York University, George Washington University, Emory University, Eugene Lang College of The New School, Cape Town University in South Africa, as well as a consortium of 22 American universities abroad, and the Sorbonne in France, to name but a few.
AUP’s undergraduate academic program takes the form of four major divisions: Arts and Sciences, International Business Administration, International Politics, Economics, and Public Policy, and Communications and Film. In addition to a host of interdisciplinary programs that cross academic disciplines, the University also offers nine graduate programs at the Master’s level: the Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural and Sustainable Business Management; the Master of Arts in Cultural Translation; the Master of Arts in Global Communications; the Master of Arts in Global Communications and Civil Society; the Master of Arts in International Affairs, Conflict Resolution and Civil Society Development; the Master of Arts in Middle East and Islamic Studies; the Master of Arts in Middle East and Islamic Studies and International Affairs; the Master of Arts in Public Policy and International Affairs; and the Master of Arts in Public Policy and International Law. Our deepest values include academic rigor, academic freedom, intercultural understanding, global sustainability, and the excellence toward which the faculty strives continually.

The opportunity to live in Paris, immersing yourself in a new culture, becoming part of a Parisian neighborhood, interacting daily with your neighbors, landlord, the shopkeepers, etc. is a fundamental part of the educational experience at AUP.
The AUP Housing Office assists students in finding comfortable and affordable accommodations within easy commuting distance from school. Most students are housed during the first three days of Orientation after they meet with a Housing Advisor who takes into consideration their personal requirements, interests, and budget.
Students live in various parts of the city in Independent Rooms or with French families or landlords or in a student residence rather than on campus.
The Housing Office also will aid students who have been at AUP at least one year in finding studios or larger apartments.
The Housing Office is open year round and available to assist students with any housing issues they encounter throughout the school year. Whenever necessary, the Housing staff often acts as an intermediary between students and their landlords.
