Informationen zur Universität

Leeds Metropolitan University has almost 30,000 students, 3,000 staff and 300,000 associate students through its network of 24 partner colleges.

The University offers a range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses across four faculties - the Faculty of Arts, Environment & Technology, Faculty of Business & Law, Carnegie Faculty, and the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences.

Leeds Met has two main campuses, one in the city centre and one in Headingley, just outside it. Two faculties have recently moved into fantastic new homes in the city centre. Our Faculty of Business and Law moved into the award-winning Rose Bowl, behind the Civic Hall, and our Faculty of Arts, Environment & Technology have recently moved into the inspirational Broadcasting Place. A mini campus was formed at Headingley Carnegie Stadium with the opening of the Carnegie Stand in 2006, the base for sports performance and sports coaching degree programmes. The development of the stadium continues with the Carnegie Pavilion, at the world famous Headingley Cricket Ground, on track to open in summer 2010. This dual purpose facility will be the new home for the University's Carnegie Faculty and students on media, events management, and hospitality courses will be based there.

The University works with a wide range of partners in the worlds of business, education, culture and sport including Black Dyke Band, Northern Ballet Theatre, the Rugby Football League, Leeds Rugby and Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Predecessor institutions of Leeds Met date back as far as 1824 when Leeds Mechanics Institute was founded. The Carnegie College of Physical Education, a well-known former college at Leeds Met's Headingley Campus, was formed in 1933. In 1992, the institution became Leeds Metropolitan University and was given degree awarding power.

Famous alumni include Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs, artist Henry Moore, and rugby star Austin Healy. Dame Kelly Holmes, entrepreneur James Caan, and the late Jane Tomlinson are among those who have been awarded honorary degrees from the University.
