* would like to practice your therapeutic profession at international level?
* want to expand your professional spectrum with sound expertise in research, teaching and management?
* have set yourself the goal of being able to adequately react in your career to the changing demands being made on the healthcare sector
* would like to work on research projects and make a contribution to having the scientific nature of your occupational field recognised?
* are interested in an interdisciplinary research discourse that extends beyond the boundaries of your specialised field?
* want to study without giving up work?
If so, then apply for the vocational Master of Science study course in Therapeutic Sciences at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences.
Our Masters course in Therapeutic Sciences is aimed at academic occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists and related professional groups (e.g. sports scientists or language remedial teachers). Students spend the two years of the vocational course acquiring an in-depth knowledge of the health sciences, knowledge management and research methods, as well as learning how to apply this knowledge in their own specialised disciplines.
The course qualifies therapists to work on research projects and provides a formal and contextual basis for a doctorate. Individual main subject areas prepare students for positions in the fields of teaching and clinical research or at management level.
Lectures, seminars, group work and practical research projects will equip you with sound knowledge of the themes and methods pertaining to the therapeutic sciences. You will learn how to systematically work with literature, formulate research topics and draft study designs. You will develop the corresponding tasks and fill them with practical content relevant to your specialised discipline.
As a result, you will broaden your knowledge and extend your capabilities not only on an interdisciplinary basis, but at the same time in a manner tailored to your own individual interests and the main subject areas of your occupational field. The examination of current developments in health economics, health policy and career politics will open up new perspectives for you that will enable you to react adequately to changing circumstances in the healthcare sector (demographic changes, scarcity of resources).
The first semester is spent teaching theory and methods.
* Scientific theory
* Health sciences
* Quantitative and qualitative research methods
In the second semester, alongside the teaching of theory, the acquired knowledge is applied in practice. You learn the basic principles of
* and communication in the healthcare sector.
You will work on a joint, cross-discipline research project together with students from other fields of therapy. The results of the project are then presented to a large professional audience during a student symposium. Counselled and guided by experts, the students are responsible for realising every single phase of the project, from identifying a research topic to planning what data is to be collated and then evaluating that data, through to organising the event and presenting the research results, and culminating in their publication.
In consultation with the students, a visit is organised to a congress related to the special fields concerned as part of an excursion.
The third semester is devoted to specialised studies in two of three optional subjects. Parallel to this, students work on their own research project that is intended to serve as a preliminary study for the Masters thesis.
This thesis is then completed in the fourth semester.
The prerequisite for attending our Masters study courses is usually the successful completion of a vocational Bachelor course in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy, or a comparable degree with 240 ECTS.
Note: Applicants with a degree with 180 ECTS can acquire 60 ECTS by taking a pre-Masters course. Please contact us so that we can personally discuss your case in depth.
Practical work experience prior to beginning of the study course is not compulsory.
Mission Statement of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences
Founded in 1848 by Carl Remigius Fresenius, and with its roots in the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences can look back on over 165 years of privately funded educational tradition in Germany. This makes it the oldest educational chemistry institute of its kind. True to the intent of its founder, it combines teaching, research, and practical application. The name Fresenius stands for practically oriented teaching closely linked to applied research and development. This holds true for the traditional Faculty of Chemistry & Biology, the Faculties of Health & Social Affairs and of Economics & Media, both established in 1997/98, and also for the new Faculty of Design, which was integrated in 2013.
On this basis, and in coordination with professional partners as well as in communication with associations, alumni and students, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences has continuously evolved its range of courses and its strategic direction. In doing so, it pursues the goals of sustainability and innovation in equal measure, true to the motto of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences: Teaching and research with practical relevance, bringing an international environment to life, challenging and supporting our students!
Our Teaching and Research
Our degree courses, together with the training and further education opportunities we offer, impart the scientific knowledge and skills required in the respective faculty, taking into consideration the current and future demands of the job market. Students apply their theoretical technical knowledge and our research when gaining practical experience. Based on their study progress, we involve students in our practical research projects. We regard ourselves as an internationally active university focusing on cooperation and practical application. We are actively involved in shaping tertiary education in Europe. Not only do we network at national and international level, but our teaching, research and practical application is also interdisciplinary and team-oriented.
Our various degree courses qualify our students to assume responsible positions in their respective occupational fields and to continue their academic training. We set high standards for our students to challenge their commitment. As a private university, we offer them high quality teaching and personal guidance. We create the required framework conditions for a shorter duration of study. With our extensive international network of research, teaching, and practical application partners, we explicitly promote and support the mobility of our students and their acquisition of linguistic and intercultural skills as a matter of utmost priority. The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences has many years of experience in promoting lifelong learning. From initial academic training to part-time and Master's degrees, further training concepts and doctorate co-operation arrangementswe offer all of our students flexible modules for studying, enabling them to achieve their personal development goals.
The knowledge, abilities, and experience of our staff are the key requirements for attaining the high standards and relevance of the course contents we offer. We encourage individual development of our staff members on the basis of a trustworthy management culture. This personal development focuses on the ongoing attainment and development of technical, methodical, and teaching skills.
Our Social Responsibility
The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences is fully aware of its role as an educational institution embedded in diverse social structures and processes. Our degree courses serve to initiate and reflect in equal measure the developments of the information society, the job market, and the campuses' local environment.
Sustainability and Quality Assurance in our Work
Future economic viability and the sustainability of what we do are vital for preserving the independent standing of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences that is necessary for its teaching and research activities. We safeguard and develop the quality of our processes with the aid of various evaluation and communication tools on the basis of a certified management system. Our goal is to actively shape the changes taking place in the education sector. In doing so, we take into consideration not only the interests of our students, but also the requirements and needs of the job market and of employers.
